Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, AVSM, NM, with over three decades of meritorious service in the Indian Navy, has been appointed as the Chief of Personnel as of May 10, 2024. Naval Career and Specialization

Commissioned on January 1, 1989, Vice Admiral Bhalla specialized in Communication and Electronic Warfare, areas critical to modern naval operations. His postings on several frontline warships have underscored his operational proficiency in these fields.

Command Roles

Prominent among his sea commands was his leadership as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF). In this capacity, he was the Officer in Tactical Command for the President’s Fleet Review (PFR – 22) and MILAN – 22, a large-scale multinational naval exercise that saw extensive international participation.

In terms of land-based assignments, Vice Admiral Bhalla has contributed significantly at the Naval Headquarters as the Assistant Chief of Personnel (Human Resource Development). Vice Admiral Bhallais a distinguished alumnus of several esteemed institutions including the Royal College of Defence Studies, London, the Naval War College, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. His academic qualifications include an M.Phil in Defence & Strategic Studies, a Master’s in International Security and Strategic Studies from King’s College, London, and M.Sc degrees in Defence & Strategic Studies and Telecom from the University of Madras and CUSAT respectively.

His exemplary service has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Nao Sena Medal. Additionally, commendations from the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief highlight his outstanding contributions to the Indian Navy.
