The National Security Guard (NSG) is an elite counter-terrorism unit of the Indian Armed Forces, which was formed in 1984 in the wake of Operation Blue Star. This elite unit is specially trained to handle any kind of terror threats and is equipped with the latest technology and weaponry. The NSG commandos are considered to be among the best-trained special forces in the world. The NSG is also known as the Black Cats due to the black attire they wear.
The NSG commandos have been involved in many successful operations like the Operation Black Tornado in 2008, which was launched to end the terrorist siege of the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. The commandos had killed nine terrorists and rescued hundreds of hostages from the hotel. They also played a major role in the rescue operations during the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the 2014 Pathankot attacks.
